Expanding Livelihood Options

Our formal and informal consultation and conversations with experts and members from the communities who run their own micro enterprises, as well as those who are employed in various organisation pointed to the need for a systematic interventions on this issue. This intervention was conceived to include promotion of skill-sets that allows for access to a wider range of livelihood options, as well as working to increase self-confidence to pursue these options, linkages to resources, markets, information and credit etc.

Project Vayati is an exciting new project that will see at least 30 transgender people to take up a range of jobs in the formal sector. Members from the transgender community face tremendous challenges including in finding jobs where they are accepted and respected for who they are. Project Vayati is designed to address the needs of members of transgender communities who wish to seek employment in the formal sector.

Here is how we pitch in:

  • We reach out to the community to understand their need; we also interweave support of corporate bodies
  • Based on their aptitude we support them develop skill sets that would help them find a job
  • We work on enhancing their confidence, offer guidance during interviews and placements and provide continual backing during the training period
  • Simultaneously we work with companies to ensure that an enabling atmosphere is credited for the trans employees.

We believe that having trans people in the organisation is hugely beneficial for companies. We are seeking support for this project. We need financial support, we support with placements, skill training and involvement of motivated volunteers to help with the many aspects of this project. We have to succeed and we need you to make it possible.
